Neighbourhood

The La Buhaira neighborhood and the former suburb of La Calzada are a reflection of the passage of time in Seville, blending traces of the past with the vibrancy of the present. Originally, this area was an extramural settlement with workshops, orchards, and roads leading to the city. Today, it is a residential district with wide avenues, historic gardens, and a privileged location that offers easy access to the city center. One of its most emblematic spots is the Jardines de la Buhaira, once the recreational grounds of the Almohad caliphs, where remnants of the palace and its water reservoirs are still preserved. This green oasis is the perfect place to walk, read, or simply escape the urban hustle and bustle. Nearby stands the Church of San Benito, a temple of great devotion in the city and home to the popular San Benito Brotherhood, whose penitential procession during Seville’s Holy Week is one of the most anticipated. Its history and architecture make it a landmark of the area. But undoubtedly, one of the forgotten treasures of this neighborhood is what remains of the Monumental Bullring, an ambitious project promoted by the legendary bullfighter Joselito el Gallo. Designed to be the largest bullring in Spain, it was only in use for a few years before being demolished in 1930. Today, a small part of its structure still stands, a testament to what it could have been and a reminder of the vision of one of the most influential bullfighters in history. Despite its transformations, this area has preserved its Sevillian essence, combining tradition, culture, and an excellent location that allows visitors to enjoy Seville with both comfort and authenticity.
